Meet Nancy, Author of Teachers Toy Shop

HEY THERE! I'M NANCY, CREATOR OF TEACHER TOY SHOP.  WELCOME TO MY SITE!

ABOUT MY EXPERIENCE IN EDUCATION

I am a former middle school science teacher and toy developer turned science curriculum creator. I spent 11 years teaching middle school science with Compton Unified School District in Compton, California. Among many activities, I organized and ran the school’s science fair as well as the after school science program, took students hiking and camping, and I also took them to the snow on weekends through the Sierra Club’s Inner City Outings program. In 1998, I won the district Teacher of the Year award.

FROM TEACHER TO TOY MAKER

In 2005, I switched careers to become a toy developer. I developed many toys, including a line called Nancy B’s Science Club. I have several patents, and one of my toys was nominated for Toy of the Year. I also invented an extremely popular pair of binoculars for children. Another interesting fact is that one of the games I created was miniaturized, and then it was included in a fast food chain's children’s meal as the prize!

FROM TOY MAKER TO SCIENCE CURRICULUM DEVELOPER

In 2019, I switched careers again to become a science curriculum creator. In addition to doing freelance writing for publishing companies, I LOVE creating fun and funny science curriculum for middle school students. I strive to have everything I make to be unique and have a toy-like, playful quality to it.

OTHER FUN FACTS ABOUT ME

On a personal level, I am a mom to two wonderful teenagers. It’s hard to believe wonderful and teenagers go together in the same sentence but they truly are. We have two small rescue dogs (pandemic pooches). They make sure I take walks every day. And my wonderfully supportive math professor husband is very helpful with checking my math in my resources before I publish them.

I hope you love my resources as much as I love creating them.
